Why Restoration Won: Saving 100-Year-Old Windows at Monument

Why replace it when you can revive it?

At Monument by Green Front, the restoration follows a simple principle: Preserve what tells the story best. That idea comes to life through the story of the original glass rondel windows from the vestibule door, first designed in the 1920s by William Bottomley.

An early renovation plumbing leak forced the door’s removal. Now under the direction of artisan Wayne Cain, each piece of 100-year-old glass is being carefully restored. The goal extends beyond preservation to transformation. These glass rondels will soon serve as a striking exterior feature.

And the process extends beyond a single door. Moroccan-style windows in the library are also undergoing detailed repair, and Cain is crafting new panes for the kitchen addition using traditional glasswork techniques.

This balance of old and new shapes a broader vision for the home — one that honors its 1920s architecture while adapting for modern living.
