High Bridge Trail State Park

High Bridge Trail State Park

The newest addition to the Virginia State Park system, the linear High Bridge Trail State Park, opened in 2009 and is the closest park to Farmville. The new rail-trail state park draws its name from the aptly named High Bridge. Located in Farmville, it is 2,400 feet long and towers 160 feet above the Appomattox River. The trail is open to a number of non-motorized activities – hiking, bicycling and horseback riding – with High Bridge being the focal point. The park’s linear design stretches 31 miles, roughly paralleling U.S. Route 460. Eight access points can be found along the trail.
