A Shout-Out to Our Green Front Customers: Designers, Seekers, and Visionaries

At Green Front, we love it when we can inspire you. We’re happiest when we see our customers’ creativity on full display: balancing form with function, fusing styles in unexpected ways, and defining rooms with an eclectic combination of pieces discovered in our revitalized tobacco warehouses. That’s why we want to introduce you to some of our talented customers—so that they can share their Green Front journeys (and their inspired designs) with you.

Whether they’ve left Green Front with a refined vision, a global gem, or that one piece that will anchor the room, the designers we’re featuring know that they can use their experience at Green Front for inspiration. And we pride ourselves in offering them the independence and options necessary for their creative work.

Whether you’re a design guru or a novice, we know you’ll love meeting a few of our savvy customers—and getting their decorating tips and advice for 2021!

Christal Hedgepeth (@home.style.live)

What’s better than bringing the most beautiful elements of nature into your home?
A trip to Christal Hedgepeth’s Instagram page is like a vacation in photographs. Sunlight, airy spaces, and a combination of modern and rustic styles create a look that we love!

Other things we love? Christal’s unique global perspective and focus on natural elements. In fact, her bathroom’s “Mediterranean oasis” features our charming teak root chair imported directly from Indonesia. Christal says that the chair is “like a piece of art,” and we agree. She’s also featured our chair in designs for her entryway and living room. We love it when our customers find a signature piece so unique and versatile that it can be the focal point in almost any room!

Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, I moved to the states about seven years ago. My love for interior design and architecture transpired while traveling the world as a flight attendant. I was fortunate enough to see different elements of design from a global perspective. HSL (home.style.live) was created to showcase my design style and how I used inspiration from my travels to create feeling and meaning in every room.

What inspired you to pick this Green Front piece?
Nature will always be my biggest inspiration, and the wood accent chair is definitely a statement piece that’s beautifully crafted to represent a piece of nature.

What do you love about shopping at Green Front?
Green Front has a large variety of furniture for every type of design style and budget. It is perfectly laid out into specific design components, which makes it easy to navigate your way through each store. It is essentially a “one-stop shop.” Having the ability to find furniture pieces from different designers all in one place is a dream for any designer.

Do you have any tips for shopping at Green Front?
Prepare yourself—lol. Make sure you grab a map, identify what pieces of furniture you are interested in before going, grab a coffee, and enjoy the shopping experience!

What is your decorating tip for 2021?
Make your home your oasis! Invest in good quality pieces that make your home feel like you are on a permanent vacation. Earthy palettes and textures instantly add a sense of calmness to any space. Lighting and layout is extremely important; invest in a beautiful chandelier or pendant light to draw the eye up and set the mood for your space. Having a good layout promotes functionality and space management.

Jessica Cooley (@oliviagraysoninteriors)

One of our customers, Jessica Cooley, has built her company, Olivia Grayson Interiors, on the design philosophy that “everyone has a right to a beautiful and functional home.” Whether she’s working on a custom shower or finding the perfect home decor to complete a room, she knows that it’s all about the details. We love that Jessica’s “modern farmhouse dining” design (an unexpected combination of classic and outdoor pieces that just works) was inspired during her trek between Building 8 and Building 5. At Green Front, we know that finding the right piece is often about the journey, which is why we have nearly one million square feet of showroom space in revitalized tobacco warehouses and department stores here in Farmville. Like Jessica, you can make the expedition a fun part of the process.

I have loved interior design since I was 12 years old. I design fresh spaces that make you love being home.

What inspired you to pick this Green Front piece?
I love using classic pieces but also mixing styles for a fresh twist. I found the farm table and upholstered end chairs in Building 8, and the side chairs were outdoor pieces from the Accessories Building down the street! Pulling different things together and creating a vibe that feels like you is what makes your home tailored just for you.

What do you love about shopping at Green Front?
I love the character of the buildings and the variety Green Front offers. There is no other place in Virginia like it; you can always be certain you will not have the same thing as your friends!

Do you have any tips for shopping at Green Front?
Ever since the first time my mom took me to explore Green Front, I have always started with rugs in Building 7, ventured my way through my favorite two buildings (eight and nine), and then made my way down Main Street. I always take a break for lunch and then circle back to make final decisions. My best advice would be to make your list of goals before arriving because it is very easy to get distracted!

What is your decorating tip for 2021?
Now, more than ever, we need our homes to be places of rest. Thinking about each space and item you bring into your home with intention will help you create a haven you love.

Adele Hamed (@thepersianfarmhouse)

Adele’s singular style is “farmhouse with a touch of Persian and French country design.” Her whole look shines white and gold with bright red pops of our absolute favorite—Persian rugs. (We’re obsessed too, Adele!) She gets inspiration for many of her bold, attention-grabbing designs at Green Front. She knows just how one of our authentic, hand-knotted rugs can transform a kitchen, a living room, or even an entryway. We buy our rugs straight from the source, traveling the world to hand select the best pieces, so that we can offer customers like Adele a curated selection that she couldn’t find anywhere else.

My name is Adele, and I work for the government, but I love all things home! My page is simply for fun, but I do want to potentially grow it and create a business for it (creating faux plants, trees, and pillows).

Recently, I have made more updates in my house that really show how beautifully a Persian or Turkish rug can make a space pop. My home is very neutral (greys, whites, and golds), so having that pop of red on the ground makes the space even better!

What inspired you to pick this Green Front piece?
I went to a model home in my area, and I fell in love with every single rug they had in that home! I asked, and they told me about Green Front!

What do you love about shopping at Green Front?
I love the customer service. The guys there always assist in every way they can and help me find EXACTLY what I need!

Do you have any tips for shopping at Green Front?
My tips for shopping at Green Front are to wear comfortable shoes and to spend the entire day there. There are so many beautiful buildings to explore and so many different options!

What is your decorating tip for 2021?
My decorating tip for 2021 is not to follow the basic home styling trends and, instead, to follow your own personal design by turning your home into a space you LOVE. Don’t be afraid of color! A Persian rug can make ANY space better!

Anna Vaden Guanzon & Marian Vaden Raible (@vadendesignco)

Known as the “twin sisters with a pharmacist’s eye for detail and a designer’s passion for creating beautiful spaces,” our customers Anna and Mare remind us that “design is so much about the process.” The Vaden sisters love to utilize earthy tones, chocolate brown stain, and white, bright interiors. Their search for the perfect design elements for their projects lead them to vintage European chandeliers, aged iron light fixtures with hand-sewn linen shades, and unlacquered brass hardware for that classic wooden door. We’re always happy when we can help Anna and Mare find that perfect rug—or even some terracotta jars that remind them of Alys Beach! As two of our most loyal customers (they’ve been visiting Green Front since they were kids), they are always looking for something new. And we know that we can offer them the global finds and on trend pieces that will help them do their best work!

Tell us about yourself and your business.
We are Anna and Marian, identical twins, and otherwise known as the “Vaden sisters.” We’re as close as it gets, and we spent our younger years creating floor plans among the leaves in our wooded backyard, redesigning our friends’ rooms, and organizing homes while we babysat! Although creatives at heart, our love for math and science and our desire to help those who were sick led us both to careers as hospital pharmacists.

After 20 years in a complex and stressful medical field, we began doing free design work for friends and family as an outlet for creativity. Returning to our creative minds once again shone light on a dream we’d shared since we were little girls: to one day have our own design company. Still longing to help others, we decided to chase our dreams, shifting our service from medicine to design. With a pharmacist’s eye for detail and a designer’s love for creating beautiful spaces, we launched Vaden Design Co., LLC, a residential interior design company, in the fall of 2019.

What inspired you to pick this Green Front piece?
For this project, we used multiple Green Front pieces. Our goal was to create a space that had neutral tones and maximum comfort with a vibe that felt timeless and collected. Green Front pieces included a Taylor King sofa with sloping arms and traditional waterfall skirt, an oversized, neutral Moroccan rug, and contrasting black minimalist Nuevo chairs. Vintage olive jar urns in soft terracotta hues completed the space!

What do you love about shopping at Green Front?
We love so many things about Green Front! From rugs and sofas to Turkish kilim pillows and outdoor furniture, Green Front has you covered. Furthermore, the Green Front staff is always eager to help. Rickie, Glenda, Ashley, and Den have always given us wonderful customer service! We put them to the test with our abundant design questions, and they answer all of them with smiles on their faces!

Do you have any tips for shopping at Green Front?
With thousands of square feet of furniture, Green Front can feel very overwhelming to customers. Plan to make a day of the shopping experience to take it all in, and remember to have fun! Make sure to break for lunch in downtown Farmville for a reboot. Uptown Coffee Cafe is our staple for sandwiches and afternoon espresso! It’s the pick-me-up we need for those last several hours of shopping!

What is your decorating tip for 2021?
With 2020 behind us, the spaces in our homes are now so much more important. Our tip for 2021 is to be more intentional with your purchases, taking the necessary time to source quality pieces that speak to you. Give yourselves permission to have unfinished rooms or empty walls for a bit. Good design is a creative process that shouldn’t be rushed! In 2021, also make goals to declutter a space or clean out a closet. With all of us at home a little more these days, we are confident these small steps will give you a renewed appreciation for your spaces!

At Green Front, we love our customers! And we especially love helping our customers seek out the perfect piece. Whether it’s Christal’s rustic chair, Jessica’s farm table, Adele’s rugs, or Anna and Mare’s vintage terracotta olive jars, you can find it at Green Front. We pride ourselves in stocking the best in hand-made rugs, quality furniture, and custom made pieces from across the globe—all for you!

So why should you visit Green Front? We couldn’t say it better than Anna and Mare:

We have been visiting Green Front since we were little girls. From jumping rugs in the clearance rug building as children to sourcing those rugs for our clients now, we feel so fortunate this gem of a place is only a short trip away. To see what’s hitting the store, give Green Front a follow on Instagram, @greenfrontfurniture and @greenfrontrugs. And make sure to have the true Green Front experience in person. You’ll love it!
