Green Front’s sampling of Moroccan rugs ranges from the quintessential Berber pattern to vibrant rag rugs. Moroccan rugs are identified by their tribal design, including their linear motifs and their chunky pile.
Many of the rag rugs, formally called boucherouite rugs, are woven by women in villages using only rags and scraps of discarded clothing. True upcycled masterpieces, their patterns are completely organic, as their creators make up for a lack of design instruction with boundless creativity.
Most of our Moroccan-style rugs are not actually from Morocco. India and Pakistan frequently recreate their effect and design, but the replicas lack the character and uniqueness of an authentic Moroccan rug.
